On Monday 29th November the Trinity Mariners' Lodge No.8406 celebrated, on the exact anniversary of its founding, the Lodge Golden Jubilee (Semicentennial).
Alexander Graham Bell said "preparation is the key to success" and this quote best describes the work that the Admiral of The Trinity Mariners', W.Bro. Chris Saville, has undertaken over the last three years to bring the semicentennial celebrations of the Lodge to fruition. It was necessary to change the plans several times, due to the pandemic, and the closure of the Town Hall (founding venue) originally proposed as the venue, thwarted the plans. It was decided to link the celebrations with a rededication of the banner, which had fallen into a sorry state. The proposed cost of this was considerable, but a recent member of the Lodge, through his business, funded the cost. A true gesture in the very best Masonic tradition by Bro. Patrick Devine.
Eventually, the Masonic Hall Dover was selected as the venue and 46 masons attended, including W.Bro. Mark Bassant Assistant Provincial Grand Master accompanied by seven serving officers. The ceremony was conducted by the Worshipful Master and the Director of Ceremonies in a very professional manner. During the ceremony, W.Bro. Bassant gave an illuminating talk on the events in 1971, when the Lodge was formed, which followed a recording of the formation and history of the first 25 years of the Lodge by the late W.Bro. John Edmondson.
W.Bro. Bassant, in a moving gesture, invited W.Bro. Saville to share in the dedication, in recognition of his work. W.Bro. Saville and the Lodge D.C. W.Bro. Swinerd, then paraded the banner around the Lodge for all to see.
Following the meeting, a very relaxed and jovial festive board followed at which an inscribed firing glass and Lodge 50 year history were presented to all present.
A truly momentous evening, which illustrated what the Lodge has achieved and can continue to in the future.
